A power of attorney (POA) is a legal document that grants a designated person the authority to act on behalf of another person. As such, a POA empowers the agent or attorney-in-fact to act on behalf of the principal. The agent may be delegated broad or limited authority over the principal's property, finances, investments, or medical care.
